How to tell us about an abnormal vehicle load
If you're planning a route with an abnormal vehicle load, you may need to notify us and perhaps arrange a police escort. Answer our quick questions below to find out if you need to notify us and the best way to do it.
My overall vehicle length is over 26m (85')
Thank you. In this case you need to notify us.
With an abnormal load of this size you may also need a police escort if we think it's necessary.
Please note, abnormal vehicle loads are not permitted in London between the following times:
Monday to Friday: 07:00 to 19:00
Saturday: 10:00 to 19:00
You can notify us in one of three ways:
Online using the UK government's free electronic service delivery for abnormal loads (ESDAL) system.
This will help you plot your route and notify all the relevant authorities, including us.
Online using commercial software
Commercial services can be found online that simplify the notification process and help you plan your route. Provided the notifications comply with special types general order (STGO) regulations, we can accept them.
By post or email
Visit the UK government's website, where you can find out which authorities you'll need to notify and download all the relevant forms.
