1. Mark Roberts, Director of Commercial Services
Mark Roberts joined the Metropolitan Police in December 2019 as Director of Commercial Services with the responsibility of ensuring both the Metropolitan Police and the wider UK policing become more efficient in their delivery of value for money services and enabling the Metropolitan Police ‘to make London the safest global city’.
Mark’s role is the most senior commercial role in UK policing and is accountable for the Metropolitan Police budget of £800m of annual expenditure and £250m of annual income. He has over 20 years’ experience in the implementation of award-winning strategic transformation programmes across both the public and private sector
Mark joins the Metropolitan Police from the government Commercial Function where he was the continuous improvement director. He was responsible for ensuring the Commercial Function drove performance improvements and best practice in its annual expenditure of £49Bn.
Mark successfully led the implementation and adoption of the government Commercial Operating Standards across the Central Departments and the wider public sector, drove the transformation of the commercial assurance processes and established the Functional working group for systems, data and processes.
He also led the Functional Strategy activity that explains the ambitions of the Function over the next 3 years and the Schools outreach programme, being recognised by the EY Foundation as the ‘Young Peoples Advocate for 2019’.
Mark joined the government Commercial Function from Anheuser-Busch InBev, the World’s largest brewer, where he spent five and a half years establishing the Global Procurement Office at their Global Headquarters in Leuven, Belgium. His wide-ranging remit as Global Procurement Capabilities Director included leading the award winning Global eSourcing programme, which conducted over 100,000 auctions with spend in excess of $35Bn during his time with the organization. Mark was also responsible for the introduction of Crowdsourcing into Procurement.
Other Global responsibilities included procurement compliance, responsible sourcing, knowledge management and talent attraction. Mark travelled over 60,000 miles during his last two and a half years in his role to identify the next generation of procurement talents, recruiting both internally and from leading business schools.
Prior to Anheuser-Busch InBev, Mark held international leadership positions at Vodafone, Intel and Bertelsmann in supply chain, distribution, M&A and eBusiness.
He has a BSc (Honours) in Information Systems Management from Bournemouth University and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Bath University School of Management.
